Renewable Energy
The shift to renewable energy sources has become essential as the globe struggles with the severe impact of climate change and energy security. To fulfill our ever-increasing energy demands, renewable energy, which comes from replenishable natural resources, offers a sustainable and environmentally responsible option. Solar and wind energy are two of the most promising and quickly developing renewable energy sources available today.
Solar energy is virtually unlimited, with the sun producing an amazing 173,000 terawatts of energy every second, which is 10,000 times the amount of energy the entire world consumes (Energy.gov 2016). Because of this huge potential, solar energy technologies, especially photovoltaic (PV) panels and concentrated solar power (CSP) systems, have grown exponentially in recent years.
Wind energy is currently one of the fastest-growing renewable energies because of its efficiency and ability to scale up. As of 2023, while the total cumulative installed wind power capacity around the world reached around 906 gigawatts (GW) with the largest contributions coming from Europe, North America, and Asia (GWEC 2023), this number is expected to increase by an additional capacity up to 70 GW in 2024 showing the steady investments in the growth and technology of wind energy.
